MOTO SMARTPHONES TO FEATURE FINGERPRINT SCANNER FROM 2016: LENOVO
All Moto smartphones that will be launched this year will come with a fingerprint scanner, Lenovo has confirmed. While fingerprint scanners have become a hygienic feature in most mid-end and flagship smartphones, Mototola had refrained from using them in its portfolio. The revelation was made by Chen Xudong, SVP of Lenovo and president for Lenovo China and Asia Pacific.
According to reports, Motorola had failed to find an adequate supplier for fingerprint sensors. It’s worth pointing out here that Motorola was one of the first ones to embrace the technology with its Atrix 4G back in 2011.
Chen also shared roadmap for future smartphones from Lenovo — no new phones with screen size lesser than 5-inch will launch this year. According to him, smartphones with screen sizes less than 5-inch aren’t popular outside Europe. Also, Lenovo will not be launching more than 15 devices in 2016.
The new announcements come shortly after Lenovo revealed it will be phasing out Motorola brand. The company has adopted a dual-brand strategy under which it will be using Moto and Vibe branding for its smartphones and wearables. The Moto brand will represent company’s high-end devices while Vibe will be for the budget devices.
